What Should I Expect?

Our highly-trained team of veterinarians at Brown Trail Animal Hospital is committed to excellent service and complete care for our patients and their owners! Our state-of-the-art veterinary facility is clean, comfortable, and efficient. We are fully equipped to provide the best possible healthcare for your pet.

We recommend all pets come in for a complete check-up at least once a year. Dr. Murphy, Dr. Kilianski, and Dr. Bose will check your pet's health through a head-to-tail examination, including everything in between. They will check your pet’s ears, eyes, lymph nodes, skin, teeth, abdomen, heart, lungs, and more. Our veterinarians also recommend biannual examinations.

What Forms Will I Need to Complete in Advance?

For your convenience, we provide a new client form online that you can complete in advance of your visit. This enables us to spend the majority of your visit focusing on you and your pet. If you have any questions about the form, please ask!

Please bring a copy of your pet's medical and vaccine history to your appointment. You may also have your previous veterinarian send Brown Trail Animal Hospital your previous records in advance.

What Payment Options Do You Accept?

Pet Memorial

The team at Brown Trail Animal Hospital understands that your pet is your family. We are honored to pay respect to the beloved animal friends who have passed. We provide this pet memorial page so that you can create a lasting tribute to your beloved pet.

We feel that it is important to pay homage to our pets, and also to help pets that are currently in need. By purchasing a memorial tag for your pet, including name and endearment, you will be doing both. 95% of your purchase will go into our Goode Benevolent Fund, a clinic fund that helps sick and injured pets when their owners are unable to do so. Please contact our team for more information.

Your New Pet

The team at Brown Trail Animal Hospital is excited to welcome your new pet! We invite you to click on the information below to learn more about your pet’s specific life stage needs. If you have questions that are not addressed below, we invite you to contact our team and we’ll be happy to help.

Kittens

Congratulations on welcoming a new kitten to your home! We are just as excited as you are, and we want to provide you with all of the information you need to get your kitten started on the right paw.

It is important for all new kittens to have a physical examination right when they are welcomed into your home. Kittens need to adhere to a very specific vaccination schedule as well. While our vaccinations are often geared toward individual needs, most kittens need the same initial vaccinations in order to protect themselves. Our initial exam will include discussing those vaccinations, conducting a head-to-tail examination, a fecal exam for intestinal parasites, discussing nutrition and dietary needs, and prescribing parasite preventatives. Internal and external parasites will be addressed at this time from both a therapeutic and preventive standpoint.

When your kitten is young, it’s important to make sure that you make considerations about spaying and neutering. We also recommend microchipping early in your pet’s life.

Our initial exam will include discussing those vaccinations, conducting a head-to-tail examination, a fecal exam for intestinal parasites, discussing nutrition and dietary needs, and prescribing parasite preventatives. Many puppies are afflicted with both internal and external parasites, which if left untreated can cause long-term problems. It is important for us to discuss the variety of needs that your pet may have, based on their breed and full-grown size. Some things, like nutrition concerns, need to be addressed early in order to make sure that your pet is getting the proper nutrition they need for their body type.

Adult Cats

Your cat is a part of your family. They need special care to ensure that they will be at your side for years to come! All cats need to have annual health check-ups that include head-to-tail examinations covering your cat’s teeth, heart, lungs, abdominal organs, skin, eyes, and ears. We will also administer diagnostic tests, such as heartworm and intestinal parasite checks. Often vaccinations are administered at this time as well. During each exam, we’ll take the time to discuss any concerns that you have about your cat. We are committed to being there for you and your cat for life!

Senior Cats

When your cat enters their golden years, it’s important to be prepared. We recommend senior cats increase to twice yearly visits because their health condition may continue to change as they age. Coming in for more frequent visits allows us to make sure that any of these health conditions are identified before it’s too late for effective treatment.

During these visits, it’s important for you to let us know if you’ve observed any behavioral changes in your pet. Changes in appetite, willingness to play, struggles with regular movement, decreased water intake or bathroom use, and difficulty engaging in usual activities are all potential symptoms of underlying health problems. We can provide a number of pain management options for senior pets, so identifying painful conditions is to their benefit.

Some health conditions we see in senior cats include:

  • Kidney disease

  • Thyroid conditions

  • High blood pressure

Senior Dogs

Our dogs bring us joy all their lives, but it’s important to remember that when they begin to age they need a little special care too. We recommend senior dogs increase to twice yearly visits after the age of seven, because their health condition may continue to change as they age. Coming in for more frequent visits allows us to make sure that any of these health conditions are identified before it’s too late for effective treatment. At first, the only sign that you may see to indicate your dog’s age is a few gray hairs because dogs notoriously hide signs of pain. This is why diagnostic tests are extremely important to identify problems before their symptoms are revealed.

Behavior Concerns

Our cats and dogs bring us so much joy in our lives, most of the time, but behavioral problems can make a whole household disrupted! If you have been struggling with unpleasant behaviors in your pet, we can help. Sometimes behavioral problems can manifest themselves as a result of underlying health conditions, so we always perform a physical check-up when making our recommendations.

Some unwelcome behaviors may include:

  • Excessive barking

  • Marking

  • Aggression

  • Chewing

  • Destruction
